Asha Lata

For over 25 years, Asha Lata has watched the Koyra River transform. Where dense greenery and thriving biodiversity once flourished, climate disasters and expanding settlements have left the riverbanks bare.

Mangroves are more than just trees, they protect coastlines from erosion and storms, provide vital breeding grounds for fish and crabs, and support the livelihoods of communities that depend on healthy coastal ecosystems.

Through the Mountains to Mangroves initiative, Friendship, one of the programme's implementation partners, is helping restore mangroves along the Koyra River, bringing nature and livelihoods back into balance.

Follow Mountains to Mangroves for more stories of community-led conservation and restoration.
