As a forest officer in Paikgachha and Koyra, Premananda Roy has witnessed decades of devastation. Crops, homes, livestock, forests, and wildlife were lost to cyclones. Families survived in overcrowded shelters with little food or water.

Yet people here continue to rebuild. They plant trees, farm fish, raise livestock, and protect what remains of the Sundarbans—because they know these forests are their first line of defence.

Through Mountains to Mangroves and Friendship’s work, communities are restoring riverbanks, creating livelihoods, and spreading a simple truth: there is no alternative to planting trees.
