Darjeeling faces a severe water crisis, with a daily demand of 18–20 million gallons against a municipal supply of just 1–2 million gallons. The drying up of 25 key feeder springs due to forest fragmentation has made nature-based solutions increasingly vital.

Through the Mountains to Mangroves project, ATREE's Senior Project Manager, Sanjit Pradhan, is leading the restoration of a 100-hectare government-allocated landscape to revive water recharge. Built on a strong community co-ownership model, the initiative aims to strengthen water security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods for the long term.
