Untouchability still exists in many pockets in India and while the traditional caste system has caused much decay in the country's social fabric, we continue to document enough about those who remain to be seen and heard by the masses. This Ichol Life is a documentary by pluc's producer Hemant Chakma who gives us a short glimpse into the world of untouchability in rural Madhya Pradesh. We see the Ichol community of local artisans and folk artists working on their crafts as they discuss their day-to-day qualms of living in an unjust world. In the village of Ichol, Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, he ponders over how people think of identity in terms of ethnicity or nationality. This documentary will make you kickstart the long overdue conversation with your friends on caste and why do we shy away from learning about it.
