How often do you donate blood? On October 1, here is an important message for you all - as India observes the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day - this day aims at spreading awareness about the importance of donating blood and the benefits associated with it. The Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology first observed this day in 1975 on October 1. With the the COVID-19 pandemic there was a decrease in blood donation drives and individuals volunteering to do the same - which highlighted the shortage of blood in our country more than ever. Given that India faces a perennial blood shortage in regular times, there can always be a clarion call to donate more blood and widen the base. Let's emphasise on blood donation because blood transfusion requirements for cancer patients, thalassemia, pregnancy issues etc. would have remained as usual during COVID times. Secondly, let's find better interlinkages of blood banks and healthcare systems to create a sustainable supply of blood throughout the year. Do you want to share your story with us?
