When the Agariyas of Surendranagar faced relentless power cuts in the harsh expanse of the Rann, the solution did not arrive from afar—it rose with the sun.

Solar energy became more than a source of light; it became a turning point.
Amid crisis, a quiet shift began. Women stepped forward—not as beneficiaries, but as leaders.

This marked SEWA’s first intervention in solar entrepreneurship for young girls, in partnership with Social Saheli. Together, they introduced a digital storytelling tool that trained over 1,000 women to document and speak about their work—hands that install, repair, and sustain solar systems across their villages.

From rooftops to remote salt fields, these women became the first responders of energy access—the go-to solar technicians and entrepreneurs in places long left in the dark. With a phone in hand and skills hard-earned, they claimed visibility in a space where their labour had remained unseen.
As India moves toward its commitment of 500 GW of clean energy by 2030—requiring nearly one million trained workers—this initiative addresses a critical gap by building a local, women-led workforce for the clean energy transition.
This film is not a lesson, but a living example of women claiming economic independence, dignified jobs, and leadership in clean energy—while reshaping their futures and the environment they call home.

Through their own voices, the storytelling tool captures their everyday struggles, small victories, and the profound social, economic, and ecological impact they are creating.
