This is a 'Deepfake' video

The BJP used artificial intelligence technology to create two deepfake videos of party leader Manoj Tiwari ahead of Delhi elections

But, what is Deepfake?

Deepfake uses AI (artificial intelligence) to create morphed videos that seem real

It can even put words in the mouth of another person

Another version of the video was also shared in which Mr Tiwari speaks in Haryanvi, calling out the promises of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party.

The original video is in Hindi

Tiwari’s fabricated video was used widely to dissuade the large Haryanvi-speaking migrant worker population in Delhi from voting for the rival political party.

According to the BJP, the deepfake videos were shared in some 5,800 WhatsApp groups

This is the first time deepfakes have been used in Indian Election Campaign
