Twitter launches 'Search Prompt' on Suicide Prevention Day in India

It was announced in partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS)

The campaign, which is being promoted under the ‘There is Help’ tag, is aimed at offering a prominent banner...

...that will be triggered by specific keywords of searches linked with suicide and self harm

Under the banner, Twitter India is offering users a direct link to the suicide prevention help page of NIMHANS

It has also introduced a Twitter list that notes down prominent helplines that can be contacted across India to prevent cases of suicide

Suicide is now recognised as a public health issue in almost every country

Suicide rates have been increasing gradually to the extent that it has become one of a major cause of death worldwide

“We are happy to work towards the cause of suicide prevention. We realise that each one of us has a responsibility in ensuring there is increased visibility for authoritative information on this subject." - BN Gangadhar, Director, NIMHANS
