In Darjeeling, thinning forests and water scarcity are forcing wildlife into village farms just to survive. This conflict doesn’t just destroy crops, it forces the next generation to migrate away from home.

Tenzing Sherpa, senior field coordinator, Ashoka Trust for Research in ecology and the environment, along with native communities is fixing the root cause. By rebuilding ecological corridors and planting sustainable fruit trees, he is bringing food back to the wild so animals stay within their habitat. When the forest pantry is full, the conflict ends, protecting both the harvest and the wildlife’s right to live.
