Stubble burning has been a problem in the Northern-belt of India for years now. According to the Central Government data, Punjab has 80% of stubble burning cases in North India. But the rise in air pollution due to stubble burning and its impact on health has compelled people to look for alternative solutions when it comes to discarding stubble.
In this episode of Vayu Sakhi, we have Sarbjeet Kaur from Punjab, who has been working with the Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) for nine-years. She is spreading awareness about the various utilities of stubble, and how one can use it in their farms. She talks about the method of mulching, where stubble is used to cover the plants, and helps earthworms in fixing the nitrogen content in the soil. It can also be used to keep the livestock at home safe and warm.
