Rajasthan has an annual solar potential of 142 GW and yet many of its rural households remain deprived of electricity. This affects the efficiency of the artisans and pastoralists in meeting the market requirements, rendering them vulnerable to poverty. To solve this problem, Urmul Seemant Samiti along with the Desert Resource Centre is tapping into the solar potential of the Thar Desert, to facilitate a village in Bikaner with electricity. Along with Samakhya Sustainable Alternatives Pvt. Ltd., they are also helping these artisans and pastoralists find new markets and expand, resultantly doubling their incomes.
